If you want to stay in business, do not do it yourself. There is a heck of a lot more to developing a website solution than throwing up some code or some template. You need a company that is not only up on the latest tools and tricks in coding, but has a good design eye and can reflect your vision on what your business is.You really don't want the first thing possibly thousands of people to see is a homemade website. In addition it is VERY important that you find a company that understands ALL phases of marketing including but not limited to, search engine optimization (SEO), business networking and brand development.

Take a look at the short article on the lower left side of my developer's site and it will give you reasons to not do it yourself. Go to BrightHopeDesigns.com and read "Why hire a Professional"

You want to watch out for one man/woman shops because they usually are one trick ponies. They are only good at one aspect of web development and nothing else. Check out their portfolios (run if they don't have one!), check out their exposure on the net and check out whether or not their clients are still in business!
